However, transitioning to a fully communicative approach presented challenges. Maintaining a balance between fluency and accuracy proved difficult. Students, particularly those with lower proficiency levels, often felt apprehensive about making mistakes. To address this, I implemented strategies to create a safe and supportive learning environment. I explicitly emphasized that making mistakes is a natural part of the learning process, and I offered positive reinforcement and constructive feedback rather than focusing solely on errors. I also incorporated error correction techniques that focused on self-correction and peer feedback, empowering students to take ownership of their learning.
Another crucial aspect of effective English language teaching is catering to diverse learning styles and needs. My classes encompass students with varied backgrounds, learning preferences, and proficiency levels. To meet these diverse needs, I adopted a differentiated instruction approach. This involves designing learning activities that cater to different learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) and providing varied levels of support and challenge. For example, during a lesson on idioms, I offered visual aids, audio recordings, and hands-on activities, allowing students to engage with the material in ways that best suited their learning preferences.
